We provide a well-rounded course of instruction in
Martial Arts with a focus on improving the overall being
of a student rather than just teaching them "how to
fight." In actuality, we teach our students how
not to fight.
Our program includes stretching exercises, a proven
aid in long-range health maintenance; self-defense
techniques, which require the student to move and to
think in directions that are, at first, alien to
him/her; and lastly, awareness training of his/her
responsibility to others.
Our students know they should never frivolously use
the techniques which have been taught. Our philosophy
is: "The first person to throw a punch is the
first person to run out of ideas."
The children’s' class is geared specifically toward
children 6-12 years of age. We place emphasis on
building self-esteem and confidence with some of the
following benefits:
Confidence
By engaging one another in a close contact way, students
can become more comfortable and less likely to be
intimidated.
Coordination
The warm-up regimen and physical skills will sharpen
their reflexes and increase their sense of well-being.
Self Esteem
By encouraging students to be strong and to push
themselves to do better, they gain a stronger sense of
self. Confidence and Self-Esteem go hand-in-hand with
Martial Arts. Physical fitness workouts help build
better strength, flexibility, agility, balance and a
positive attitude about a healthy lifestyle.
Disipline
Self-Discipline: doing what you're supposed to, when
you're supposed to do it, without being told! Completing
homework without being asked, cleaning up belongings and
following directions the first time - all are a part of
the life lessons taught at Popham Athletics Martial Arts
Academy.
